NEWS.....

Welcome to the NEW GP2X site for Aussie's and Kiwi's.

The SNES emu was released today. Doesn't work very well, but fun to mess around with till the next release.
Ok Alot of bad news has come out about the GP2X since the Korean release. Headphone solder points, battery life, thunbstick left issue and video playback. First the headphone solder points can be fixed by anyone who has used a solding iron and thats if it happens to be on final units you guys get. Second, battery life. Its a firmware problem and GPH are fixing it now. Thirdly, thumbstick left issue, easy fix. I have read that the machine building that part may have over tightened the thumbstick. So all you have to do is turn the top of the thumbstick anti clockwise a little bit (yes I tested this and now mines perfect). Finally the video playback. I have an early model and have not had any issues at all. It plays DIVX and XVID just as stated on the web site. I have been encoding my videos for over a year and all videos work (i use DR DIVX). Also all DIVX and XVID videos downloaded from peer 2 peer have worked. So I'm guessing some people just don't know what they are doing.
So whats this all mean. Not much really. I have a beta unit (ownly 10 built i think) and its super buggy. But I can still watch videos, play mp3z and load all the games. So my advise is chill, and wait till either Evil Dragon (the germen gp2x shop) or CraigX (UK shop) says otherwise.

Just downloaded and played Quake for the GP2X. All I can say is guys this handheld will impress. I also expect the SNES and Megadrive emu to be released (in some form) by end of next week.

The first batch of units has been shipped. Most users are complaining about usb detection. GPH has released a small program that will make connecting the GP2X to winxp easier, but some users are still having trouble. Most of you would have a card reader so this will not a problem. Card readers cost $15 to $40. When I recieve my unit early next week I will update on how I went  using usb on my winxp pc and imac. Only a few days now.

First release units may have to be firmware upgrade before use, I have been told that a bug may have slipped thru. Not that is matters to much everyone in Australia and New Zealand had to update the firmware of the SONY PSP on release.

Pictures of the GP2X box have been released.

All is a abit quite on the GP2X front. The calm before the storm maybe. Pre-ordered units from gp2x.co.uk and gp32z.com look like will ship early november and other orders from retailers like play-asia and lik-sang will ship late november to early december.

Just got back from my trip in Queensland from the VIDEO GAME trade show. Well I took the GP2X on the road and showed it around. I carried the damn thing around my neck for 4 days. Talked it up and demo'ed the hell out of it. Well the reponse was poor. Everyone wanted to see the GP2X, but 99% thought it would be better to wait and see what was possible. I paid US$145 for the beta unit off GPH and since I can't help them get an Aussie retailer behind it. I think I should pass it on so someone else can use it. Contact me thru the forums.

Hi guys, I recieved the the beta unit today. Well to sum it up, I have opened it twice already to fix it. First the unit came shipped without the springs to huld the batterys in. Second the headphone jack fell off the main board. So its hardly fair to GPH if i was to review this beta unit. Overall I must say the OS is brillant. It plays mp3's and video very well. More info soon.
